The video for Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks” is some of the freakest shit i’ve seen in a while. I’m not sure whether I want to hide under my covers or embrace it with a big hug- regardless their new album “Veckatimest” is perhaps one of the best albums released this year. Now, I’ve never been a huge Grizzly Bear fan and I hate constantly agreeing with pitchfork, but fuck me- “Veckatimest” is a work of beauty. The band synthesizes rock, folk, chamber music, and a shit load of other genres into a atmospheric sound all their own. Just listen to the swirling vocal harmonies on “While You Wait for the Others” or the angelic hums on “Foreground,” and try and tell me I’m wrong. At times dark and moody, and at others points inspiring and joyous- the album cements Grizzly Bear’s status as one of the most exciting and original bands in America.
Also, Liz brought up Vincent Moon’s “take away” sessions a few posts back, and Grizzly Bear did a great one for their track “Knife” so make sure to look that up as well. Although I have to say my favorite “LaBlogotheque” is the one Architecture in Helsinki did for “Heart it Races” - if you don’t believe in the collective power of the human spirit after watching it than you are just a heartless bastard and should go sit a corner and think about what you’ve done.
