Twitter. Is. Awesome.

Last night, Peter Bjorn and John played a secret show after opening for Depeche Mode at Madison Square Garden. Entrance for the show involved tweeting the secret password to the New York indie music blog Stereogum within a 15 minute frame on Monday afternoon.
The Cake Shop in the Lower East Side is basically the place where your highs chool band played their first show, with no legit lighting and a web of christmas lights above the stage.
The show began around 1 and they played until about 2:30 in the morning for a crowd no larger than 100 people. PB&J were obviously just having fun, playing almost exclusively from their self-titled album and Falling Things, plus a couple of covers and a rousing version of Happy Birthday for Bjorn’s mother. Their encore was a 15 minute version of Up Against the Wall that ended in the Swedish National Anthem. It was a hot, sweaty event but really entertaining.

I would’ve liked to hear something weird off of Seaside Rock (their 2008 instrumental album that got a very limited release) or “Objects of My Affection” but for a free, secret show, being picky is a sin.
As a musical tribute to a memorable night, here’s PB&J’s “People They Know”
photos from Stereogum.
