FALL CONCERT - RJD2, ZION I, CALE PARKS. FREE!!!!

If you’re anything like me, you’re foaming at the mouth in anticipation of this Saturday’s FREE FALL CONCERT. The concert obviously features three solid artists that are going to make for a wild time. I put some tracks by each artist into this handy playlist. Take a listen. Visit their MySpaces. And be there on Saturday - doors at 8 pm. Free with a Trinity College ID. I put some tracks by each artist into this handy playlist. Take a listen. Visit their MySpaces. RJD2 is a DJ from Philly who’s unlike most DJ’s nowadays in that his techniques involve absolutely no computers. Rather than having a MacBook packed with tracks feeding through a spinning interface, RJ will arrive with a fresh stack of vinyl and four turntables and spin until it’s all gone. You’ve heard “Ghostwriter” all over the place, but check out more. Sick stuff.

Zion I is a rap duo from San Fran who’ve been around forever. Since releasing their first LP in ‘97, they’ve cemented themselves as one of the biggest names in the history of Bay Area hip-hop. Yeah - kind of a big deal. On top of that, they got style. MCZumbi lays down positive, socially conscious lyrics with a wicked flow on top of AmpLive’s beats that feature both samples and live instrumentation. The duo combine for a kickass sound and an even more kickass show.

Cale Parks has been involved with a ton of NYC-Boston-area indie buzz bands of late, but his solo act is taking off as a result of his hard work in and out of the studio. LIVEDC writes “Parks plays a blend of dream-pop with a dash of dub, but it’s really exhausting to watch Parks perform. On stage he’s constantly switching from analog instruments to keyboards and loops. It’s hard not to get caught up in the spectacle rather than the music itself.” It’s a blend of dancepop and new wave that you shouldn’t miss. Be there.
