I am not too familiar with Ok Go’s music, but this video needed to be posted. Ok Go made an alternate video for their single “This Too Shall Pass”. The video is based on a Rube Goldberg Machine (a deliberately over engineered machine that performs a very simple task in a very complex fashion, usually including a chain reaction). Everything in this video is one working chain reaction started by a car hitting dominoes in the very beginning. This video is one of the coolest music videos I have ever seen. Enjoy

It’s called “Babe” and it centers around two recently broken up yuppies. On the surface, there’s much to love: some Chet Baker and Nat King Cole songs, an argument over who “gets the Prius” - both amidst the backdrop of a drab, black and white diner.

I’d say its trying to self depreciatingly poke fun at the urban, liberal, mildly hip twentysomethings who can often get way too caught up in themselves – basically the exact same demographic who would read a blog called “All Plaid Out”, which is where I found the film. (Did I just implicate myself?)

if you’re looking to procrastinate, check out this interactive video called “What Type Are You?” put on by design company, Pentagram.

Answering four basic questions, you are told which typeset best matches your personality. The experience is done with well shot video clips and a clean layout.

Apparently, I am a “Universal” type (because I’m rational, understated, progressive, and relaxed).

Holycrap.

As Big Stereo puts it, Body Language is like “worn out cassette tapes playing back big pop tracks, not quite chillwave but not quite club — a beautiful healthy mix.”

Body Language is a 5-piece outfit from Brooklyn (because who isn’t these days) who are being hailed all over the place as a move-your-feet act that can bring the noise. Comparisons with Friends Electric, Little Boots, Crystal Method, Toro Y Moi, Hey Champ, Treasure Fingers, and Yes Giantess (who has rocked TrinColl twice already) abound, so you know what you’re getting yourself into… In other words, prepare to sweat. At the same time, though, they’re subtle - you decide how hard you want it to hit.

Here are some tracks not to miss from their 5-song release Speaks EP…

“Huffy Ten Speed”
A nonsensical hymn for our generation, featuring hypnotically dark synths and a build to boot that erupts in an addicting chorus.

“Work This City”
Barry White with synths - laid back electronica that is simultaneously sexy, incredibly well layered, and fun to move your feet to.

Yes Giantess - “Demons” (Body Language Remix)
This is how Yes Giantess would sound if they were zombies playing in the middle of an empty ampitheater for the last time before the apocalypse hit. This is absurdly good.

So stop by. Gaffney, Fadil, and Austen will all be DJ-ing hard starting at ten before Body Language hits it. Tickets $2 and can be purchased in advance by e-mailing miltix@gmail.com. The crowds were insane, and I couldn’t really see much. Plus, of course, it was raining. In any case, I know there are pictures online that people can see but here are a few of my own!

Also, THIS came up while “stumblingupon” (if that can be a term). I think it’s still a bit glitchy, but cool nonetheless. I guess one would have to memorize all of the buttons to get it to sound good. Who’s up for it?

Pill Wonder is a band from Seattle and this is their excellent...

Pill Wonder is a band from Seattle and this is their excellent video for their track “Wishing Whale,” the song is pretty good, but i like this one by them better.

The second song to be released from Gorillaz upcoming album,...

The second song to be released from Gorillaz upcoming album, enjoy

While one should always approach covers with a level of skepticism, I’m definitely into this...

While one should always approach covers with a level of skepticism, I’m definitely into this recent cover of Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness” by the LA-based band Barbara.

“Pursuit of Happiness (Kid Cudi Cover)” ~ Barbara (taken from Indie Shuffle)

The feel is taken from the Gourd’s infamous “Gin & Juice” song (the first song I downloaded on Kazaa), but the band actually used samples, snagging Iron & Wine’s Trapeze Swinger and using barely noticeable Sam Cooke vocals. The result is an awesomely mellow version of Kid Cudi’s jam with lots of little surprises.

The band said this song was the first of many so I’m excited to hear more.

New Shout Out Louds album released February 23rd! It’s called Work, and the singles “Walls” and “Fall Hard” were released earlier this year. While they kept their signature cute background melodies, this new album has gone a step further. Although their previous album, Our Ill Wills, has distinct tempo changes and a profound message about traveling away from home, Work has allowed the band to come back home with a more simple and upbeat outcome. When I listened through the album, there was hardly a song that I didn’t put on my ipod playlist.

Get “Walls” and “Fall Hard” (Passion Pit Remix) here. (Song above is regular version of “Fall Hard”)

Also, an actual The Morning Benders album will be released on March 9th. I first heard of them when they opened for The Kooks a couple of years ago, but they only had EPs being released then. The Morning Benders’ new album is called Big Echo, and they have certainly grown as a band since I heard them last. The lead singer’s voice is something I have never quite heard before. The only way I can describe this band is if The Shins had a distant cousin…. Anyway, the only single that is available is “Excuses,” and by golly is it great. There are also other songs from their previous album/EP. Download it all here.

It’s supposed to be making fun of educational videos from the 80s and 90s.

It kind of reminds me of watching The Cosmos with Carl Sagan…

Discussion in my cultural anthropology class reminded me of this...

Discussion in my cultural anthropology class reminded me of this gem by the Bedroom Philosopher, the stage name for Australian comedian and musician Justin Heazlewood (by the way, what’s up with hilarious indie-folk music coming out of that hemisphere?), that a friend showed me a couple summers ago. The “official video” is funny too, but he’s pretty charismatic live.
