K’Naan, who headlined the International Hip Hop Festival on campus last year, released this mixtape earlier this year. Aided by DJ J. Period, the Somali native remixes and interpolates songs from Bob Dylan, Fela Kuti,and Bob Marley as a tribute to three musicians who had an indelible impact on our world. Above is one of my favorite upbeat joints off the mixtape, as I’m still studying for finals and am in need of the energy burst. There are some great slower, storytelling songs on the mixtape as well, especially over Dylan’s Don’t Think Twice and Marley’s Johnny Was. Anyway, here’s the link if you’re interested.
