Check out this video for “Humdrum Town” by Theophilus London. He’s going to be playing at the Mill on May 4 with Savoir Adore…. so downloand his mixtape here and start getting excited.

For the last year or so I’ve been obsessed with Savoir Adore. They are a unique Brooklyn-based 5 piece led by Diedre Muro and Paul Hammer. The songs are fulllllll of soaring melodies and infectious beats… Think Rilo Kiley meets Tokyo Police Club, set in brooklyn. Get it? If not, watch the video above or check out the songs We Talk Like Machines and Bodies.

rumor has it they might make it to the mill sometime soon

BODY LANGUAGE.

Body Language is going to be here THIS SATURDAY AT 10 PM AT THE MILL.

Holycrap.

As Big Stereo puts it, Body Language is like “worn out cassette tapes playing back big pop tracks, not quite chillwave but not quite club — a beautiful healthy mix.”

Body Language is a 5-piece outfit from Brooklyn (because who isn’t these days)  who are being hailed all over the place as a move-your-feet act that can bring the noise. Comparisons with Friends Electric, Little Boots, Crystal Method, Toro Y Moi, Hey Champ, Treasure Fingers, and Yes Giantess (who has rocked TrinColl twice already) abound, so you know what you’re getting yourself into… In other words, prepare to sweat. At the same time, though, they’re subtle - you decide how hard you want it to hit.

Here are some tracks not to miss from their 5-song release Speaks EP…

“Huffy Ten Speed”
A nonsensical hymn for our generation, featuring hypnotically dark synths and a build to boot that erupts in an addicting chorus.

“Work This City”
Barry White with synths - laid back electronica that is simultaneously sexy, incredibly well layered, and fun to move your feet to.

Yes Giantess - “Demons” (Body Language Remix)
This is how Yes Giantess would sound if they were zombies playing in the middle of an empty ampitheater for the last time before the apocalypse hit. This is absurdly good.

So stop by. Gaffney, Fadil, and Austen will all be DJ-ing hard starting at ten before Body Language hits it. Tickets $2 and can be purchased in advance by e-mailing miltix@gmail.com. Get them fast - they will sell out.

Body Language @ The MILL

After touring with Little Boots, Zero 7, Passion Pit, Theophilus London, Ninjasonick, and other big names - these “beat driven crusaders” will be coming to hartford to rock out in our venue SATURDAY NIGHT!

Tickets are $2 from milltix@gmail.com

Man vs. Nature, Man vs. Machine, Man vs. Pandora: Age-old Conflicts Dealt With Here:

A while back, I posted on Roxy Paine— a sculptor whose work seems to blur the man-made and natural worlds into one strange hybrid.  His installation on the rooftop of the Met this past summer was an abstraction of fallen branches created with stainless steel industrial piping— an “abstraction” which provokes us to consider the relationships between man, nature, and machine.  He presents objects of nature as “abstract”, shiny, industrial, so we can’t help but notice the irony: the industrial machine, responsible for so much of our environment’s destruction, now recreates it.  While his stainless steel branches remind us of a lightning storm, or those static-electricity globes they used to sell at Radio Shack, the works below— his SCUMAKS— vaguely recall the glowing vegetation on Pandora.  They are created with an Auto Sculpture Maker (yes, a machine) which spits out the plastic blobs onto a conveyor belt.  Each unique creation retains a certain personality to the effect that it wouldn’t seem inappropriate to give them each a Power Ranger name.  ”Zach”, “Billy”, and “Kimberly” (below) were included in the 2002 Whitney Biennial and are three examples of the heavily-collected SCUMAKS.  No 3D glasses required.

Movies at the Mill presents ANNIE HALL

Come to the Mill on WEDNESDAY AT 7:30 (not 8PM) for Woody Allen’s Annie Hall.

The film, seen as a turning point in Allen’s career, is one of the most influential films of the 70s. Take a break from your finals studying and enjoy a good classic movie!

(this will be the last movie for the semester, but we will be back in the spring!)
