Rye Rye - Bang feat. M.I.A. (WTF I Asked for a Kuduro Remix by Buraka Som Sistema)

When I was at ultra we were trying to see Hercules and Love Affair at this club afterwards and Rye Rye was one of the openers and let me tell you, she knows “Wussup” (TERRIBLE pun francesca, honestly). If you are down with Kid Sister or Yo Majesty or Fannypack (go download So Stylistic immediately) then you will love Rye Rye- she has a tough attitude and killer rhymes put to sweet beats, and if you youtube some of her shows you will see she also has synchronized dancers in matching spandex outfits which is always a plus. This is a remix of her song Bang ft. M.I.A. done by Buraka Son Sistema (who also do an AMAZING Lykke Li remix of Dance Dance Dance: here is a link to that : http://hypem.com/track/840271/Lykke+Li+-+Dance+Dance+Dance+Buraka+Som ) ANYWAY sorry that was an overload of things to enjoy, but enjoy!

This is really freakin’ cool.

As if you couldn’t already get completely lost in McCartney’s original version anyway, Banzai Republic takes an old favorite and morphs it into a transcendental piece more along the lines of the Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows”. The remixers make you the blackbird and use their electronica/dub influences (and an awesome jazz break) to launch your ass into an endless but heavy sky. Somewhere along the lines of The Books meets Thelonious Monk meets Thievery Corporation. Real cool.

Violens - Already Over

This is a video remix done by Caroline Polachek, using the song “Already Over” by the Violens. Think Beach Boys meets the Shins with a little bit of new-waveish original flavor, the Violens have been touring with Grizzly Bear and MGMT. Their label, Cantora Records, describes them:

“Violens songs conjure descriptions of nightmares, the passing of time, speculations on spiritual messages, and accounts of psychedelic hallucinations. Even their most frenetic guitar work and aggressive rhythms are draped in a gauze of reverberant, harmonized vocals and synths which create a sense of creepy, artificial comfort. A fitting characterization, lyrically and musically, for a group whose name sounds like a melding of the words ‘violence’ and ‘violins’”

Hopefully we’ll get them to play the Mill sometime soon

Reblogged from Neon Gold Beat Company:

Just in time for summer, Chiddy Bang roll through with one of the first block party anthems of the season. Sampling one of the biggest hits of the blog era is a surefire way to get your name out there, but any attempts to pass Chiddy Bang’s remix of “Kids” off as anything less than amazing fall flat once that chopped up synth sample drops and the beat takes off. The MGMT original was the soundtrack to thousands of late summer nights last year and spawned just as many remixes, but Chiddy Bang’s effort sits head and shoulders above the rest and establishes them as ones to watch in the months to come. Only just wrapping up their first year of college in Philadelphia, the hip hop sensations-in-waiting already have a handful of sick tracks in their repertoire, and if they can follow up their ace remix work with some solid originals of their own they’ll be a force to reckon with before the year is out. Recognize.

Awesome semseter end anthem. Pump it hard this summer.

DEAR LATE NIGHT: PLAY THIS SONG!

Once a week, the Mill throws out one song that deserves airtime in the frat basements and dorm rooms around campus. This week’s song was actually a tip from Mill member Douglas B.

Brooklyn DJ Duo, Treasure Fingers, sinks their teeth into Australian synth-pop-disco-weirdos Empire of the Sun’s “Walking on the Dream.” Picking up the pace and adding a squeaky-clean remake of the original’s hook, the song has a light-hearted feel that is definitely appropriate for the weather. Check it out here and look out for it tonight!

RCRDLBL released this Floss Remix of Totally Michael’s Casual Satisfaction. Download it for FREE.99 here! With a more eclectic sampling style and shifts in beat, the song sounds almost Girl Talk-ish, but the consistent base and heavy synth loops give it a unique spin. check it out and look out for it next wednesday!

Dear Late Night:

Play this song!

Every Thursday, the Mill puts out one song that deserve playtime in the early hours of morning around campus. This weekend, in honor of Spring Weekend and our upcoming concert, i’m going with the Flosstradamus remix of Matt & Kim’s “Yeah Yeah”. This track is the best of both worlds - you’ve got the absurdly catchy and cheery lyrics of Matt & Kim over the excellent Floss beats. Check it out, this song will definitely enhance your quadding experience!

DEAR LATE NIGHT: Play this song! Once a week, the Mill puts out  one song that deserves airtime during late night Thursday through Saturday (and Tuesday!). For our inaugural post, i’ve decided to showcase Justice’s Remix of U2’s “Sexy Boots.” the track follows the same grimy bass like the tracks “DVNO” or “Stress” but keep U2’s piano for an enjoyable bridge. Check out the remix and make sure to rage to it this weekend!

The guys over at Neon Gold have put out a fresh remix of Mill-Approved Giantess (now under the moniker Yes Giantess for legal reasons, fyi). In their remix of “Tuff N Stuff”, Boston DJ Duo Pirate Stereo have replaced the band’s slow build-up and melodic chorus with a fast-paced beat that gives the song a little more energy. Make sure to check out Yes Giantess’s first release on Neon Gold on 4/20!
