Click above to listen to Alec Ounsworth (yes, of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah) all on his own and sounding amazing on this track from August, “Holy, Holy, Holy Moses (Song For New Orleans).” He’s toned it down a lot, in a really beautiful way… reminds me of some sort of Bob Dylan-Bon Iver collaboration. Maybe that sounds too good to be true but I think, if ya haven’t, you should take a look at this guy.
Since we are trying to get more of our own work up here, I’d thought I would start it off. I play in a band in California called Brewer and Chase. We’ve been playing together for about 6 years and have recorded three full-length albums. We had some stuff on some dumb tv shows back in the day, but right now we are working on releasing our latest set of recordings. Here is a music video some friends and I made for a song I wrote for the new album. If you like the music download the whole album for free from http://drop.io/Brewerandchase
We are about to be featured on New York City’s “Hear It Now on Channel One” so make sure to keep an eye out.
SHINS FAN?!?
Remember what it was like to show up to a shins concert before Garden State came out? In august 2004 I saw James Mercer headline the Moonshine Festival in Laguna Beach, Ca…. but he wasn’t that famous back then, and I was one of about 150 people that showed up to a 3,000 person stadium. He called us all up to the front of the stage and proceeded to play a full 13 song set.
01 - Intro
02 - Caring is Creepy
03 - When I Goose-Step
04 - Young Pilgrims
05 - Girl Inform Me
06 - Won One Too Many Fights
07 - Harvest (Neil Young cover)
08 - Pink Bullets
09 - Gone for Good
10 - Sphagnum Esplanade
11 - The Past and Pending
12 - New Slang
13 - Saint Simon
I just found live recordings from the night, which, due to the lack of crowd, are really high quality. He plays the whole set acoustic with a harmonica, a very low-key neil young type of vibe. Without all the crazy production we’ve come to love about the shins, you really focus on James Mercer’s impressive lyrical Skills

I uploaded the whole album, which, if you are into acoustic music at allllll, is definitely worth your time. http://drop.io/jamesmercer
I don’t think acoustic music gets enough love on this blog… so I’m going to try to start sharing my weekly favorites. To start off, this is a good friend of mine from high school who just got signed to intelligent noise records. She’s been touring with people like Joshua James, Justin Townes Earle, and other big shots from LA’s Hotel Cafe scene. She’s also been featured on a bunch of TV shows like Private Practice and radio stations like the acclaimed KCRW
For a debut this strong, there is little doubt that people will take notice of Land’s impressive talents. It seems many already have, as Orange Days On Lemon Street has been on iTunes’ most downloaded folk albums since the record’s release in late March.
