I hope you came early enough to last night’s School’s Out rager behind The Mill to see Big Digits perform. Those two dudes have got too much energy to go to waste. If you were, what you probably didn’t notice was that Mac and TD were without their usual DJ, Mark-e-Moon. Instead, while the MC’s did their thing, up-and-coming producer Coralcola was on their beats.

Coralcola, on top of being an incredibly chill guy, has got a really interesting vibe going on. His tracks are dancy but chill - beat and bass heavy with obvious house influences, but relaxed enough to forge an experience that is meditative and, at times, bordering on transcendental (if you’re into this kind of stuff, at least). It’s modern and electro, but it’s organic feel lies in its simplicity, with a great deal of attention being given to the beauty of the loop, something that most artists these days flaunt, but with no right to do so. Coralcola, however, certainly has this right, for his loops are interestingly layered such that even with their repetition comes rediscovery and reinvention with each loop. These loops don’t disappear into the song, but rather are pushed to the forefront of the track. Really interesting stuff.
This one’s called “Heath Ledger”, and it is certainly a trip, and a perfect example of the Coralcola style: the heavy beat, the balance between dancy and chill, the extra attention given to the loop. I especially like the vocal sequencing. At times, subtle, but in-your-face at others. A great find.
So, everyone’s giving love to Flosstradamus and Cut Off Your Hands! lately, which is cool and all, but don’t forget that opening up for these two fantastic bands at our April 29 show are Big Digits!
These men are out of their minds in a fantastic way and have been known to come out on stage wearing the most ridiculous costumes and spitting even more ridiculous rhymes. Think The Beastie Boys meets Carrot Top meets the guy who composed the soundtrack for the original Legend of Zelda - yea, nuts.
This track, off of their album Smoke Machines in Lazervision, is called “Why Did You Reject My Steve Perry Fan Fiction”. If you can’t dance to this… wow.
Tickets for this awesome show go on sale tomorrow - get your hands on ‘em. Now.
