Bed-Stuy meets Billysburg

Black Star reunited on Jimmy Fallon and performed History with the help of the Roots and Dirty Projectors, thus making a cool occurrence even more awesomer.

Seeing Dirty Projectors get involved in the hip-hop scene is totally unexpected and  pretty exciting - I like this more than Jay-Z’s colab with Empire of the Sun by a lot.

  • A related note - Beyonce’s little sister, Solange Knowles, covered Stillness is the Move (mp3), with a sample from Dr. Dre’s Xplosive, making this indie-hip hop circle complete

The Dirty Projectors came onto my Radar in the summer of 2007 when  I saw them with Vampire Weekend in Cleveland. Their 2007 “Rise Above” was a great album that caught my attention with catchy pop tracks that would randomly collapse into noise before being recreated.

Their new track, “Stillness is the Move” takes the band in a new direction with a catchy guitar hook and ambigious lyrics. The dynamic song goes from a catchy beat to a beautiful string arrangement that leaves you awed. Listen to the song here and download it for free by entering your e-mail address here.
