Yo guys- check out this new New Young Pony Club single “Lost A Girl”. They haven’t put anything out in a while, but “Ice Cream” has been remixed so many times sometimes I forget what the original sounds like. This song is definitely still really dance-y and fun but if “Ice Cream” is about seducing a new lover, “Lost A Girl” is definitely about abandoning him. Definitely more indie than their older stuff. Can’t wait to hear the full album, as I’m sure it will be wonderful for late night dance parties come springtime.

NEW BEACH HOUSE!!! RUN THROUGH THE HALLS speaking in an indoor voice! No just turn it on and sit on a couch with your best friend or your significant other or even your parents and just listen. It is mesmerizing. Every song is different but the album as a whole works so well. This is their 3rd album and I feel like Victoria Legrande’s Frenchiness really comes out in this one, although that can be argued for all three I suppose. Devotion was one of P4Ks top albums of 2008 and I can already see this one making a lot of top 10 lists.

I’m really excited to see them play tomorrow night. Probably going to start swaying like a major hippie during this song, “Take Care”. What a beautiful way to end the album. This is already going to be one of my favorites of 2010. I know that’s going to change in like 3 days but for now I take comfort in the fact that it will at least be my favorite album of January 26th-31st.

Fanfarlo is sooo good. They played after Freelance Whales and I wasn’t gonna stay but then a roadie put himself in a straightjacket, got tied up, then laid down and had his feet connected to the beam with the lights on it that had been lowered to the ground, and then it lifted him up in the air and he dangled upside down and Fanfarlo came out and played and the roadie UNDID THE STRAIGHTJACKET IN ONE SONG!

That video makes a lot more sense than my summary. But thats not the song I posted- the song I posted is “Harold T. Wilkins, Or How To Wait For A Very Long Time” and it is awesome

GREAT homecoming weekend guys. Here is a song to cap it off- Radar Detector by Darwin Deez. CHECK THESE GUYS OUT! They are amazing live, so I am going to strongarm Chase into having them in the spring. Instead of talking between songs, they do synchronized dances to the peanut butter jelly song, among others. If you like this one, listen to “Bad Day” and their single “Constellations” as well.

2 IN ONE DAY! This is Phantogram-When I’m Small. One of my most played songs/bands lately. They are incredible and the best thing is, every song sounds a little different because they switch between having keyboardist Sarah Barthel and guitarist Josh Carter singing vocals. When I saw them at Music Hall of Williamsburg and they finished their set with this song, the bass was so killer that the whole floor was shaking. Sarah herself said about their distinct sound that “”We wanted to incorporate all our own influences and created our own sound that’s a combination of Serge Gainsbourg, sampling and Detroit hip-hop. How I explain it to the customers who come into the restaurant where I work is that we sound like a combination of Kanye West and Radiohead.” I can definitely appreciate that

PITNEY- I see your “Havin My Baby” and I raise you “What The Future Might Be” from Think About Life’s self-titled debut from 2006. I remember hearing this song at a bonfire and feeling like I could take over the world, or at least suburban Nashville. THE POWERCHORDS! It is one of my absolute favorite songs, and has been a mix cd staple ever since. If you like this, check out some other songs from that album, like “Paul Cries”… So good. It is a lot scrappier than their sophomore album, but if you listen to both albums you can really tell how far they’ve come. But yeah. Havin My Baby gets stuck in my head and I literally have been singing ” WAAAAALK ON WATER” since I finally got to see them live at the M for Montreal CMJ showcase- they played with Beast and Silly Kissers, both definitely bands worth checking out.

CMJ finally posted their list of bands! I have never been good at keeping secrets but this one I had to for the sake of my job (unpaid internship). BUT, now I can finally tell you the bands coming and where they are playing! First up- Binary Marketing Show- Shape of Your Head. These guys are gonna be big- they remind me of early AC and there is something about the harmony that is almost Sigur Ros-y? Definitely worth a listen.

They will be playing at The Rose in BK at 8 PM on October 22nd so skip school and come listen! And if you want to see what other bands are coming, check out cmj.sched.org. and give it a gander.
