Le Loup came out with their sophmore album “Family” about month ago. For those of you who are not familiar, Le Loup’s drummer, Robby Sahm, is my dear friend Becky’s older brother. Their album has been compared to the great indie bands of today like Animal Collective and Fleet Foxes. I saw them in a basement of some shady church in Philadelphia last year and their mix of folk music with electronic beats gave them a completely different feel from their first album, “The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations’ Millenium General Assembly”. The indie pop quartet is doing something indie heavy weights have been doing for the last couple years while adding their own twists with an abundance of mandolin, Afro-pop-esque guitar and distorted harmonies.
Just check out their review from BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/rxp2 with the all the audio tracks. (My favorites are Beach Town and Forgive Me)
Love and kisses,
Nellie
P.S. Because I am in Costa Rica and movies don’t come out here for 3 months after they do in the US the fact that Wes Anderson’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox” comes out today in theaters makes me want to hop on a plane home. But since I don’t have $400 to throw around I have to settle on reading the movie review in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/13/movies/13fantastic.html?scp=3&sq=wes%20anderson&st=cse.
Enjoy and I’m jealous of all of you.

a few of the songs i was listening to this weekend while pondering the fields of long grass and little romanesque churches from a bus window in normandy (i know, i know):
saddle mountains - le loup
comme des enfants - coeur de pirate
temazcal - monsters of folk
coastline - gentleman reg
switched on - islands
love’s dart - django django
and of course, some ever inspiring dharma talks from buddhist nun pema chödrön…but that’s a bit of a non sequitur.
there is the most AMAZING new music out lately, non? miss all of you at school!
