Listen to MGMT’s newest album for free on their website and watch the video for their single “Flash Delirium.” I heard some of this last summer at Prospect Park with Mer, and embedded within their songs from Oracular Spectacular and their work as The Management, the new stuff didn’t stand out as much. Less melodic, I guess you could call it… but definitely worth a download! I sense huge late night remix potential.

The band has stated that they would preferred the album to be released without singles so that we can hear it as a whole.
Here’s hoping they are playing Lollapalooza this summer in addition to the rumored headliners of Green Day, Lady Gaga, Soundgarden, The Strokes and the Arcade Fire.
My God. I can’t believe I am four days late on this. I have been waiting for this to come out for almost a year. I don’t know if anyone else is a fan, but on October 13th, The Flaming Lips released yet another (#12) genius album; Embryonic. With eighteen tracks, plus four itunes bonus tracks, “Baeblemusic explains in their review that, “the experimental ear-gobbling licks are not meant to make total sense. They are meant to spook and mystify, and where At War with the Mystics imploded, the incubated tracks of Embryonic radiate with life.”’ When I heard about the release of this new album, I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that MGMT and Karen O would be helping with a few of their tracks. As I listened to the album in entirety, my favorite way of listening to any new album, I said to Alexa, “I feel the energy.” And I did, I truly did. I felt as though I was traveling through space, looking for adventure. This spacey, ethereal sound is what sparked my interest in The Flaming Lips about seven years ago. My very first Flaming Lips song that I heard when I was fourteen or so was “Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell” from the album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, and I instantly fell in love. On this new album, I especially like the songs “Silver Trembling Hands” and “Gemini Syringes.” The latter is as smooth as something from Radiohead’s In Rainbows. Just in time for summer, Chiddy Bang roll through with one of the first block party anthems of the season. Sampling one of the biggest hits of the blog era is a surefire way to get your name out there, but any attempts to pass Chiddy Bang’s remix of “Kids” off as anything less than amazing fall flat once that chopped up synth sample drops and the beat takes off. The MGMT original was the soundtrack to thousands of late summer nights last year and spawned just as many remixes, but Chiddy Bang’s effort sits head and shoulders above the rest and establishes them as ones to watch in the months to come. Only just wrapping up their first year of college in Philadelphia, the hip hop sensations-in-waiting already have a handful of sick tracks in their repertoire, and if they can follow up their ace remix work with some solid originals of their own they’ll be a force to reckon with before the year is out. Recognize.
Awesome semseter end anthem. Pump it hard this summer.
