Trailer Trash : The Hurt Locker

This new film is being heralded as “the first Iraq movie that doesn’t suck”

Early reviews are positive and the entire movie looks really tense, gritty and enjoyable.

Trailer Trash: Taking Woodstock

Ang Lee’s latest film takes a fun look at the family inn where Woodstock took place. Starring Demitri Martin, it looks like it’ll be a pretty laid back enjoyable summertime movie that it’ll get you in the right mindset before any music festivals.

The film comes out August 14

- on another note, there’s been a momentary lapse in posting but things should  pick up  again soon.

Trailer Trash : District 9

This trailer is apparantly the most interesting part of seeing Wolverine, so save yourself 8 bucks and just watch it here. District 9, directed by Neil Blomkamp, is Peter Jackson’s first production gig since Lord of the Rings. He takes a totally different tone, doing a faux-documentary piece based on a short film called “Alive in Joberg.” “District 9” is about a group of aliens that come to earth (South Africa, specifically) looking for refuge and live as refugees in camps around the city. A large corporation, taking advantage of their technology, also enslaves and mistreats them. The film, an interesting look back at Apartheid South Africa, looks powerful and very well done. A lot of people are calling it Cloverfield meets Tutsi… I don’t really know how much action there will be, but the concept is definitely clever.

Trailer Trash: Moon

Moon is the directoral debut of Duncan Jones, the son of David Bowie. The film looks like an amazingly emotional mash-up of Apollo 13, Castaway and the Machinist (wait… huh?). The plot involves a solitary astronaut (Sam Rockwell) who is nearing the end of a 3 year stint on a lunar farm. His only companion is the station’s robot (voiced by Kevin Spacey!). Of course, things go wrong when he finds someone else on the moon. You can’t tell in the trailer, but the film was shot on an indie budget and looks far more emotional and character-driven than any previous space movies (Armaggedon? Red Planet?). The film did well at Sundance and Sam Rockwell has garnered a lot of attention for his role.

The film will be given a limited release in June, 2009

(ps - the song in the trailer is “In the Backseat” by the Arcade Fire)

Trailer Trash: Lymelife

Every week, we’ll be highlighting a recently released trailer. “Lymelife”,  directed by Dereck Martini, depicts suburban life in the late 70s as an outbreak of lyme disease uncovers the underlying tensions within the community. While the theme of suburban strife may be worn out, the presence of Alec Baldwin looks promising. Also featuring Cynthia Nixon, Keiran and Rory Culkin, and Emma Roberts, the film has an American Beauty meets The Squid & The Whale feel to it. Hopefully the soundtrack will live up to the music used in the trailer.

the film has been been released to limited theaters last friday. Try to check it out!
